St. Louis Cardinals road jersey worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Gibson during the club's 1964 World Championship season. Graded A10 by MEARS. Photomatched by Resolution Photomatching to a likely May 9, 1964 game in which Gibson secured a victory against the Mets in a complete game performance! The gray flannel jersey features the team name "Cardinals" embroidered on the front, above which is displayed the club's distinctive logo of two cardinals perched upon a bat. The number "45" appears on the left breast and reverse. "Gibson" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in red on blue felt. Gibson's name and the year ("Gibson 64") are chain-stitched in red on the left front tail. Also located on the left front tail is a "Rawlings 42" label. A laundry tag, and a flag tag reading "Set 1 1964" appear on the interior left front tail. Gibson has inscribed the jersey "To the Hatels/Best Wishes/Bob Gibson" in blue Sharpie (grading "8") on the right breast. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays light-to-moderate wear.

Gibson recorded the highest win total of his young career in 1964, finishing the season with a record of 19-12 and a 3.01 ERA. That performance helped lead the Cardinals to the World Series for the first time in eighteen years. Gibson proved his mettle during the Series, winning two games, including the decisive Game 7. One of the game's most dominant pitchers during the 1960s and early 1970s, Gibson won 20 or more games five times between 1965 and 1970, including a league and career-high 23 wins in 1970. Among his notable achievements on the mound are two Cy Young Awards, an MVP Award, nine Gold Glove Awards, and eight All-Star Game appearances. Gibson finished his career in 1975 with a record of 251-174 and a 2.91 lifetime ERA. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1981, his first year of eligibility. This jersey was featured in the superb reference book Game Worn: Baseball Treasures from the Game's Greatest Heroes and Moments (Smithsonian Books, 2016). Graded A10 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with no deductions). LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Letter of Photomatch from Resolution Photomatching. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (for the autograph only). Reserve $10,000. Estimate (open).
