Ticket stub issued for Game 4 of the 1926 World Series between the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals held at Sportsman Park in St. Louis on October 6th. PSA has encapsulated the ticket and graded it VG-EX 4. One of three graded at this level, with just four graded higher (out of 38 total). The Yankees, behind the power of Ruth's bat and the pitching of Hall of Famer Waite Hoyt, defeated the Cardinals 10-5 in Game 4 of the 1926 Fall Classic, which evened the Series at two games apiece. Game 4 is perhaps best remembered for Ruth keeping his promise to an eleven-year-old fan named Johnny Sylvester. Sylvester had been hospitalized and requested an autographed baseball from Ruth. The boy was sent a ball signed by many Yankee players, including Ruth, who also wrote a note indicating that he was going to hit a home run for the boy in the upcoming game. Ruth more than delivered on his promise by hitting three home runs and driving in four runs. Unfortunately for both Ruth and Sylvester, the Cardinals defeated the Yankees in seven games to capture the club’s first World Championship in franchise history. The ticket stub (2 x 3.5 inches), issued for an “Permanent Left Field Stand” seat, displays a light crease in the upper left corner which is responsible for the assigned grade. Reserve $300.
