Exceedingly rare New York Giants ticket stub issued for Game 6 of the 1912 World Series held at the Polo Grounds on October 14th. Graded VG 3 by PSA. This is the only example graded at this level, with NONE graded higher (out of six examples certified by PSA). We have never offered a 1912 Game 6 World Series ticket stub and can only recall having seen one other at auction in the past 20 years. This particular ticket stub originates from an advanced collection that included examples from each game of the 1912 World Series, all of which are offered in this auction. (Amazingly, five of the eight tickets are the highest-graded examples within the PSA Population Report.) Many historians consider the 1912 World Series, which is the only World Series in history to feature a deciding Game 8, one of the most exciting Series ever played. (A few other World Series went eight games, but they were all best of nine; the 1912 was best of seven, but included one tie.) Four of the games were decided by one run, and two games went into extra innings. The Giants staved off elimination in Game 6 by scoring five runs in the first inning off Buck O'Brien, which was all Rube Marquard needed to notch his second victory in the Series, defeating the Red Sox 5-2. The ticket stub (3.25 x 2 inches) displays two tiny corner chips and is otherwise Excellent to Mint in its overall appearance. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
