Official National League (Frick) ball signed in blue fountain pen by the following 27 members of the 1947 National League Champion Brooklyn Dodgers: Robinson, Snider, Branca (sweet spot), Hermanski (sweet spot), Gionfriddo (sweet spot), Hodges, Casey, Walker, Blades, Rojek, Bragan, Taylor, Miksis, Hatten, Edwards, Dockins, Lombardi, King, Jorgenson, Brown, Behrman, Pitler (coach), Sukeforth (coach), Barney, Furillo, Gregg, and Stanky. (The signatures of Reese, Vaughan, Shotton, and Lavagetto have been deemed clubhouse examples by JSA.) Signatures range from "4" to "8," averaging "6/7." Jackie Robinson made history in 1947 by becoming the first black ballplayer to don a Major League uniform in the twentieth century. While Robinson's detractors were many during his inaugural season, he soon won over the Brooklyn fans and most of his teammates with his aggressive style of play. Robinson batted .297 with twelve home runs, forty-eight RBI and a league-leading twenty-nine stolen bases. Those numbers not only helped lead the Dodgers to their first pennant in six years but also earned Robinson Rookie of the Year honors at season's end. The ball is lightly soiled and otherwise remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
