Offered is an extremely interesting baseball card hobby periodical collection ranging from the early 1960s into the mid-1970s (with a few from the 1980s). These periodicals provide a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of the baseball card collecting hobby throughout the 1960s and 1970s through the writing and sharing of hobby information by hobby luminaries, and well known collectors, including Lionel Carter, Charles "Buck" Barker, Frank Nagy, Walter E. Corson, and many others.
The collection consists of the following:
1) The Sport Hobbyist (5 issues): 5-6/1962, 7-8/1962 (back cover detached)), 9-10/1962, 1-2/1963, and 3-4/1963.
2) The Card Collector (13 issues): two 3/1962, 4/1962-9/1962, 3/1963 (larger size), 5/1963 (larger size), 9/1963 (larger size), 11/1963, and 12/1963.
3) The Card Collectors' Bulletin (38 issues): #169-191, 193-197, 199, 201-207, 209, and 185 Supplemental. Also included is a small group of additional incomplete issues and catalog addition sheets to Jefferson Burdick's The American Card Catalog (ACC) dating from the early to mid-1960s.
4) The Wrapper - Non-Sports Related Collectibles (4 issues, all from 1983-1984): #38-41.
5) Jan. 15, 1971 Card Collectors' Company - Price List No. 23
6) Circa 1975 T.C.M.A., Ltd. Price List No. 7
7) Charles Bray Bid Sheet and Rules (year unknown, yellow paper)
As these early hobby periodicals were often used for reference and checklists before the photocopier was a widespread and standard office machine, there is writing, notes, and check marks in many of the issues. The overall condition of the collection is modest due to the issues being printed on inexpensive paper and often folded for mailing. This extremely interesting group of periodicals would make a welcome addition to any hobby periodical collection or reference library. Total: 63 items (sixty periodicals, two price lists, and one bid sheet). Reserve $100. Estimate (open).
