Postwar Baseball - 1950s Cards
Collection of eleven original Topps baseball-card artworks spanning the years 1954 to 1965. These are the actual original flexichrome artworks used to produce Topps cards. The original artworks included in the collection are as follows: 1) 1954 Topps: #93 Sid Hudson (8 x 4-3/4 inches, mounted on artist's board measuring 8-1/4 x 5-1/8 inches). Accompanied by an example of the issued card (Vg-Ex). 2-3) 1959 Topps: #324 Don Demeter (4 x 6 inches) and 525 Jim Coates (3-3/4 x 5-1/2 inches). 4-5) 1960 Topps: #366 Dallas Green (4 x 4-1/2 inches) and 514 Steve Barber (3-3/4 x 5 inches). 6) 1961 Topps: #191 Mike De La Hoz (3-3/4 x 5-1/4 inches). 7) 1962 Topps: #302 John Edwards (5-3/4 x 7-3/4 inches). 8-9) 1963 Topps: #317 Sam McDowell (4-1/4 x 5 inches). This artwork was used to create the smaller "in-action" image in the lower right corner. #407 Chico Ruiz (3-1/4 x 4-1/2 inches). Please note: this artwork was also used to produce his 1964 Topps #356 card. 10) 1964 Topps: #262 Mike Shannon (3-1/2 x 4-1/2 inches). 11) 1965 Topps: #509 Bob Guindon (4-1/4 x 5-1/4 inches). All eleven flexichrome artworks are bright, crisp, and include additional image area which was cropped out by Topps on the issued cards. The 1963 #317 McDowell artwork represents the small in-action circle image as opposed to the primary image on the card. This is an outstanding selection of original artworks from these popular Topps baseball sets. All are in Excellent or better condition with standard production-related remnants on their blank reverses or in the margins. Total: 11 artworks. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
