Graded NM 7 by PSA (submitted by REA). Superb example of this early 1950s issue of Mickey Mantle, which is so very similar in appearance to Mantle's rookie card, the 1951 Bowman #253, and dates from the following year. This card was one of the highlights of an untouched collection consigned to this auction! The collection was recently discovered in the attic during a house cleanup by our consignor, who is a family member of the original owner who acquired these in their year of issue. What is even more astounding is the cards were found in their original unopened state and our consignor decided to open each pack. (The entire find included over 430 cards. The best example of each player was pulled out of the collection to be graded by PSA, which are offered as separate lots in the auction.) Mantle is the key card in the 1952 Berk Ross set. This example is bright and clean, both front and back, with four sharp corners, a flawless surface, and centered a hint to the top left (it is actually very well centered for this card; significant centering problems are very common with 1952 Berk Ross). This is a very sharp looking, extremely high quality example of one of the earliest and most overlooked of all 1950s Mickey Mantle cards. In addition to dating from his rookie era and having a very similar appearance to his 1951 Bowman card, there is no question that the 1952 Berk Ross Mantle is significantly rarer than his 1951 Bowman card, suggesting that this card represents a particularly outstanding value among early Mantle cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
