Original photo picturing Larry Brown and Johnny Hines, members of the Negro League Chicago American Giants, posing together on the field prior to a game. Certified as an original Type 1 photograph by PSA/DNA. The vintage black-ink notation "Chicago Ill's. 1935" appears along the base. Larry Brown has been identified in black ink atop his image. Johnny Hines is best remembered today for his involvement in a brawl with teammate James Bray in 1931 that ended in Bray's death. Shortly after this photo was taken, Hines was tried and convicted of murdering Bray, and was sentenced to life in prison. The photo (7 x 9.75 inches) displays a chip in the upper left corner, a few tiny edge tears, and a light creasing. Both adhesive residue and small amounts of surface paper loss are visible on the reverse from the photo having once been mounted in an album. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200.
