Addendum (3/14/19 - 12:30 pm). It appears that the tails on the jersey have been trimmed, but the trim has been professionally hemmed, so it was probably a custom trim. Also, the missing manufacturer's label was on the interior right front tail. 

Philadelphia Athletics road jersey worn by first baseman Rudy York in 1948. Graded A6 by MEARS. The gray flannel jersey features the letter "A" on the left breast and the number "6" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in blue on white felt. The player's name and uniform number ("York 6") are chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the collar. The year ("'48") is chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag located on the interior left-front tail. The manufacturer's tag on the interior right front tail has been removed (outline still remains) and the number has been restored. Aside from those two anomalies, the jersey is original as issued, with no other alterations. Moderate wear is displayed throughout. 1948 marked York's thirteenth and final season in the Major Leagues following a stellar career, mainly with the Detroit Tigers. York appeared in only 31 games with the A's in 1948, finishing the year with 0 home runs, 6 RBI, and a .157 batting average. One of the game's top sluggers during the late 1930s and 1940s, York led the Detroit Tigers to the World Championship in 1945. The following year he helped bring a pennant to the Boston Red Sox. A seven-time All-Star, York retired with 277 home runs, 1,149 RBI, and a .275 average. Philadelphia Athletics jerseys dating prior to 1950 are scarce, especially those worn by prominent players such as York. This only the third 1940s A's jersey we have offered and one that would make a fine representative example for any advanced collection. Graded A6 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 2 points deducted for the missing manufacturer's tag and two points deducted for the replaced number). Full LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500.
