"Momen Clemente" H&B signature-model ("S2") bat ordered by Clemente on October 3, 1960, just two days before the start of the World Series. Graded GU 10 by PSA/DNA. As most bat collectors are aware, signature-model bats featuring Clemente's childhood nickname "Momen" are scarce. Such bats were only manufactured between the years 1955 and 1960 and today there are probably only approximately a dozen examples circulating in the hobby. Offered here is one of the finest of those rare examples and one that is especially desirable given the distinct possibility that it was used by Clemente in the 1960 World Series. As noted in the accompanying LOA from PSA/DNA, the bat "shows evidence of heavy use with a slight handle crack that has been repaired. Many ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on all sides of the barrel. Cleat marks are visible on the right barrel and there is a light coat of pine tar on the handle. The model number (S2) is stamped into the knob and Clemente's number (21) is written on the knob in fading black marker." The amount of use shown on the bat is consistent with Clemente's production at the plate against the New York Yankees in the 1960 World Series. Clemente batted .313 in the Series, totaling 9 hits and 3 RBI in 29 at bats. Clemente's first World Series was certainly a historic one, ending on Bill Mazeroski's dramatic walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 7.
