Bank check, dated July 3, 1883, signed in black fountain pen by Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901), 23rd President of the United States. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the check and graded the signature MINT 9. The check, drawn on the Fletcher & Sharpe's Bank of Indianapolis, Indiana, is made out to "Chas. M. Raschig" in the amount of $9.00. Signed by Harrison along the base. Endorsed by Raschig on the reverse. Benjamin Harrison was serving as a United States Senator from Indiana at the time of this check. In 1888 he was elected President and served a single four-year term (1899-1893). Interestingly, Harrison was the grandson of William Henry Harrison, ninth President of the United States, and the great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison V, who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The check (7.25 x 2.75 inches), which bears a bank cancellation stamp on the reverse, displays a large spindle hole (not affecting Harrison's signature), a light vertical fold, and a tiny edge tear. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
