Exceedingly rare complete set of five Winchester Sporting Goods Basketball store-window displays, plus the original instruction sheet, most likely dating from the 1920s. Each panel, printed on cardboard stock, measures 18 x 40 inches, and bears the printed week in which it was to be displayed printed along the top: "2-A Basket Ball Display to be shown week of January 25 to January 31." The three center panels picture a game in progress scene, with the Winchester-brand basketball prominently displayed. One end panel pictures the company's line of basketball gear, including knee pads and pants. The opposite end panel pictures a punching bag and boxing gloves in promotion of Winchester's general line of gymnasium supplies. Accompanying the five panels is the original instruction sheet (12.5 x 10.5 inches) that pictures this basketball set, as well as a five-panel ice-skates window display meant to be used during the week of January 11 to January 17. This is the first example of this five-panel basketball set we have ever seen, let alone offered. Its rarity notwithstanding, it is also in a remarkable state of preservation. Each panel is in Excellent to Mint condition overall, looking much as it did when originally displayed. Exceptional in all regards and one that would be among the highlights of any advanced basketball or sports advertising collection. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
