Original news photo picturing Hall of Fame second baseman Rogers Hornsby as a member of the St. Louis Browns, circa 1916. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. Hornsby is pictured in mid-swing during pre-game batting practice. An "International Film Service, Inc." credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with several handwritten editorial notations. This is an extremely early Hornsby photo most likely dating from 1916, his second season in the Majors. The uniform style shown here features elements worn by the Browns in 1915 (striped cap) and 1916 (logo on the left sleeve). This photo was originally obtained at the sale of the Baseball Magazine archives at Christie's in 1996 and bears the special hologram label from that sale on the reverse. The photo (9 x 7 inches) displays a few moderate creases and is in Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
