Original news photo picturing two of the greatest athletes of the twentieth century: Babe Ruth and Joe Louis. Certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. An "International News Photos" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with remnants of the original paper news caption and a vintage handwritten notation in blue ink that reads "Pompton Lakes N. J. Bomber and Bambino - Louis training for his first title defense against Tommy Farr in the Yankee Stadium on August 26th." Louis' bout with Farr actually took place on August 30, 1937, which dates the photo to that year. The photo (6.5 x 8.5 inches) displays a moderate-to-heavy diagonal crease in the upper left corner, as well as a number of lesser surface wrinkles throughout. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
