Exceedingly rare original photo of renowned baseball photographer Charles Conlon. Certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. This is the first photo of Charles Conlon we have ever offered and just one of a only a few we have ever seen. Conlon is pictured here seated at his desk while writing. An "Acme Newspictures" credit stamp appears on the reverse along with an "N. E. A." credit stamp that includes the date "Apr 17 1930." Conlon was 61 years old at the time of this photograph, but he continued to work for another 12 years before officially retiring around 1942. For nearly 40 years Conlon was the preeminent baseball photographer in the country and his home base of New York City, which supported both an American and National League team, afforded him the opportunity to capture every Major League player during that span. This is both a rare and desirable photo and one that would compliment any advanced Conlon photograph collection. The photo (8 x 10 inches) displays a tiny chip in the upper left corner, light creasing, and light editorial shading to Conlon's head and shoulder areas. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
