Oakland A’s gold alternate jersey worn by Hall of Fame outfielder Rickey Henderson in 1980. Graded A10 by MEARS. The gold knit jersey features “A’s” on the left breast and the number “35” on the reverse. “Henderson” is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All front lettering and numerals are appliquéd in green on white tackle twill. All reverse lettering is appliquéd in green tackle twill. Located along the base of the front tail are a McAuliffe label, a “1980” year tag, a “42” size tag, and a laundry tag. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays moderate-to-heavy wear. This is an extremely early Henderson jersey dating from his first full season in the Majors. Henderson quickly established himself as one of the game’s premier offensive players in 1980, finishing the season with a .303 batting average, 9 home runs, 53, RBI, 111 runs scored and a league-leading 100 stolen bases. Henderson would lead the league in stolen bases 12 times during his career, including a record 130 in 1982. Considered by many to be the greatest leadoff hitter in baseball history, Henderson retired in 2003 as the game's all-time leader in both stolen bases (1,406) and runs (2,295) and is one of only 32 players to amass 3,000 or more hits in his career. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2009, his first year of eligibility. Graded A10 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with no deductions). LOA from Dave Grob/MEARS. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
