Frank Crosetti H&B block-letter (last name only) bat (predating model numbers) dating from the New York Yankees' 1939 World Championship season. (The bat can be conclusively dated to 1939 based upon the variations found in the center brand and "Powerized" stamping.) .Graded GU 9 by PSA/DNA. The bat, which is not cracked, displays evidence of excellent use, including ball marks and green bat-rack marks. Frank Crosetti bats are rare. This is the first we have ever offered and we can recall having seen only two others at auction in the past twenty years. The fact that this is a high-grade example, and dates to the historic 1939 season, in which the Yankees won their then-record fourth consecutive World Championship, only adds to its significance. It must be noted that the bat features the black fountain-pen signatures of approximately 20 members of the 1939 Yankees on the barrel. However, most are faint and, according to both PSA and Beckett, nearly all are "clubhouse" examples. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 35.3 ounces. LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
