High-grade catcher's ensemble dating from the 1920s/1930s. The highlight of this group is a 1920s Draper & Maynard chest protector with exceedingly rare leather crotch protector. It is not known why D&M produced chest protectors with a leather crotch piece, but they were either too expensive or simply not popular, because they were produced only for a very short time. As a result, there are probably fewer than five known examples of this particular style, which have always been highly prized by collectors. The chest protector features the D&M "Lucky Dog" logo on the front, next to which is stamped the number "72." Moderate wear is exhibited throughout, including fraying along the sides, and the protector is complete with all of its rear straps and connectors. Outstanding condition overall. Accompanying the chest protector are the following two items: 1) 1930s Wilson Catchers Mask. Complete with all buckles/straps, and no holes/rips/tears or ink writing. 2) 1930s rare style Shin Guards. No manufacturer listed. Very light use. These shin guards are in remarkable condition given their age and collectors would be hard pressed to find a finer example. This is an extraordinary vintage catcher's ensemble that would be a welcome addition to any advanced baseball-equipment collection. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
