Scarce and highly desirable ticket stub from Game 7 of the infamous 1919 World Series between the Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Reds, held at Redland Field in Cincinnati on October 8th. Encapsulated and certified as "Authentic" by PSA. This is one of only four 1919 World Series Game 7 tickets authenticated by PSA, and the first example we have ever offered (graded or otherwise). Game 7 was notable because it was the only game in which Chicago's mound ace, Eddie Cicotte, won in the Series. Cicotte, along with seven of his teammates, including Joe Jackson, accepted money from gamblers to "throw" the Series, which resulted in Cincinnati winning four of the first five games (the Series was a best of nine in 1919). Cicotte, after losing his first two starts, returned to form in Game 7, limiting the Reds to seven hits and one run in Chicago's 4-1 win. It has generally been accepted that Chicago's victories in Games 6 and 7 were the result of the eight "Black Sox" players finally playing to win after having been "double crossed" by the gamblers, but whatever the circumstances at the time, the White Sox were soundly defeated in Game 8, giving Cincinnati its first World Championship in franchise history. The ticket stub (4 x 2 inches) displays heavy creasing, light staining, and large areas of surface paper loss on the reverse resulting from its removal from an album. The 1919 World Series is still the most famous and talked about World Series in baseball history. As such, all tickets from the Series have a historical significance and universal appeal that transcends ticket collecting.
