Comprehensive collection of fourteen complete sets of Kellogg's baseball cards, spanning the years 1970 to 1983, for a total of 850 cards. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, the Kellogg's cereal company was the only true competition for Topps in the baseball-card market. These sets include cards of Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Ernie Banks, Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, Reggie Jackson, and Pete Rose. All the other stars of the day are also included. Of course, instead of having to buy only a stick of gum to get a stack of cards, you had to buy an entire box of cereal just to get one card (unless you sent in for a set by mail, an offer that was not available with the 1971 Kellogg's set)! This collection consists of the following:
1) 1970 Kellogg's Complete Set (75 cards): Condition is 80% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a few Mint) and 20% lesser (mostly due to cracks).
2) 1971 Kellogg's Complete Set (75 cards): Condition is 78% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a few Mint) and 22% lesser (mostly due to cracks).
3) 1972 Kellogg's Complete Set (54 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt overall (including some Mint and a few lesser).
4) 1973 Kellogg's Complete Sets (54 cards): Condition is 75% Nr/Mt-Mt to Mint and 25% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (including a couple slightly lesser).
5) 1974 Kellogg's Complete Set (54 cards): Condition is 46% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt and 54% lesser (mostly due to light back damage [possibly from storage in a photo album] and including a few cracked).
6) 1975 Kellogg's Complete Set (57 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt to Mint, with five cracked.
7) 1976 Kellogg's Complete Set (57 cards): Condition is 24% Nr/Mt or better, 58% Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (due to light back damage, possibly from storage in a photo album), and 18% lesser (mostly due to cracks).
8) 1977 Kellogg's Complete Set (57 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt to Mint, with a few lesser.
9) 1978 Kellogg's Complete Set (57 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt to Mint overall, with three cracked.
10) 1979 Kellogg's Complete Set (60 cards): Condition is 60% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint) and 40% Ex to Ex-Mt (mostly due to centering and including a couple slightly lesser).
11) 1980 Kellogg's Complete Set (60 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt to Mint, with a couple slightly lesser.
12) 1981 Kellogg's Complete Set (66 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint).
13) 1982 Kellogg's Complete Set (64 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt to Mint, with a couple slightly lesser.
14) 1983 Kellogg's Complete Set (60 cards): Condition is 63% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including a couple Mint) and 37% Ex to Ex-Mt (mostly due to centering and including a couple slightly lesser).
While to us it seems these cards were issued just yesterday, the fact is that all of these cards are now beginning to have some age to them! They are being rediscovered by the new generation of vintage-card collectors, and appreciated for the great value they represent, especially compared with earlier issued sets. It is not surprising that interest in cards from the 1970s and 1980s era has increased in recent years (and will probably continue to increase). This is an extremely substantial and comprehensive collection of cards from this classic food issue. Total: 14 sets, 850 cards. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
