Graded VG 40 by SGC. Very attractive mid-grade example of Honus Wagner from the prized "Blue Background" series of M116 Sporting Life. This rare card is popular on many counts, including that the portrait is so similar in appearance to the famous T206 Wagner and dates from the same era. The "Blue Background" series is by far the most desirable series of the 1911 M116 Sporting Life set. These cards have always been especially appreciated by collectors for their scarcity and distinctive style, as well as for the unparalleled concentration of quality players in the series. Honus Wagner, of course, is one of the key cards of the "Blue Background" subset series. Bright and clean both front and back, with an extremely bold blue background, outstanding centering, even corner wear, and flawless registration. A couple light creases on the right portion of the card are responsible for the assigned grade. The Sporting Life advertisement on the reverse is entirely clean and boldly printed. This is an extremely attractive example in a very desirable and relatively affordable mid-grade of one of Honus Wagner's most distinctive and popular portrait cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
