When Wacky Packages were issued by Topps in the early 1970s, kids went wild. Whether it was the times, as youngsters became more enlightened to the manipulations of Madison Avenue, or the amusing irreverence of the artwork, the set struck a chord with the youth of America which continues to this day. Offered is a 1973 Series 1 uncut production sheet of Topps Wacky Packages. The sheet (26 x 28-1/2 inches) has a total of 77 cards with blank white reverses. Consisting of a complete set of thirty cards plus forty-seven duplicates, the cards range from single-prints (Band-Ache, Paul Maul, Lavirus, and Mutt's) to a sextuple-print (Maddie Boy). Interestingly, one of the six Maddie Boy examples is the rare "unshaded" variation. Grading of sheets has always posed a problem as we naturally tend to grade a sheet as if it were a "big card" when really a grade does not capture the condition or visual appeal of a sheet (all the more so as sheets tend to be large). That is certainly the case here. Technically in Good condition due to creasing, edge wear, small scattered stains and fingerprints, and a bit of paper loss at the base of the reverse. If framed and hung on a wall it would still project a very attractive appearance. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $300.
