Rare uncut proof sheet of #10 The Bleech from the 1967 Topps "Blockheads" series, originating from the Topps Vault. This piece was originally saved by Topps as an example for its files but was then later sold by the company shortly after opening the Topps Vault. Ideally, it is accompanied by a COA from the Topps Vault affirming its special provenance. Produced by Topps in 1967 specifically for sale during the Halloween season, the "Blockheads" series features artworks of monsters accompanied by amusing titles. The issued "Blockheads" were actually masks that one would assemble and wear, measuring 7-1/4 x 8-5/8 inches, and were sold individually without gum. The offered subject is one of two characters in the series designed by Basil Wolverton. Collectors highly regard this set both because of the exceptional quality of the artwork and its representation of the 1960s lowbrow cultural monster-art craze. The sheet (31 x 17 inches), which is printed on thick stock, displays several very minor creases and light toning, but otherwise has an Excellent appearance. An extraordinary rarity that would be a superb addition to any advanced nonsport-card collection. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
