Collection of signed checks and $1 bills originating from the estate of St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Stan Musial. Several years ago, Musial's relatives consigned a treasure trove of material to auction following his death. Our consignor obtained these items directly from the family's sale. This collection consists of forty signed Stan Musial personal checks, 127 signed Lillian Musial checks (drawn on the couple's shared checking account), and seventy-four signed $1 bills folded in origami rings. The latter items are particularly interesting and a medium that we cannot recall seeing before. According to the original auction listing, Musial's grandson communicated to the auction house that Musial would carry the signed origami bills around to hand out to fans, sometimes in exchange for a kiss on the cheek from a pretty girl. Musial was known as a friendly and good natured fan favorite around St. Louis. The forty Stan Musial checks include a number of important checks, among them checks payable to the US Treasury for tax payments, to Sports Illustrated (perhaps for a subscription), to the St. Louis Blues (perhaps for hockey tickets), and to a number of a family members with "Merry Christmas" in the memo. Each is in circulated condition with signatures ranging from "8" to "10." The dollar bills are signed in either blue or black marker, with signatures remaining strong overall, though a few have bled from folding. Overall this is a very unique collection of Musial items that has significant break value. Total: 40 Stan Musial checks, 127 Lillian Musial checks, and 74 dollar bills. Reserve $400. Estimate (open).
