Full ticket (gold variation) issued for Super Bowl I between the Green Bay Packers, champions of the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs, champions of the AFL, held at the Los Angeles Coliseum on January 15, 1967. Graded NM 7 by PSA. Only four graded at this level, with just two graded higher (both NM-MT 8). Although Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt is credited with naming the championship game the "Super Bowl" at the time, it did not become the game's official title until 1969. That fact is evident by the title of the ticket: "World Championship Game." This first "World Championship Game" marked the official beginning of the historic merger between the NFL and AFL, which was officially completed in 1970. Green Bay upheld the honor of the older, more-established NFL by defeating Kansas City 35-10, thereby giving legendary coach Vince Lombardi the first of his two consecutive Super Bowl victories. Today, the Super Bowl trophy is named The Lombardi Trophy in his honor. The ticket (2.625 x 6.5 inches) remains in near-pristine condition and is an extraordinary example of one of the most historically significant sports tickets in the hobby. As a point of reference, REA sold a NM-MT 8 example of this ticket in our Fall 2017 auction (Lot 2250), where it realized $54,000. Reserve $5,000. Estimate (open).
