New York Yankees payroll check, dated May 26, 1973, issued to Hall of Fame outfielder Mickey Mantle, who has endorsed it on the reverse. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the check and graded the signature NM 7. The check, drawn on the Bankers Trust Company of New York, is made out to “Mickey Mantle” in the amount of $306.74 and has been signed in blue ink along the base by a Yankees executive. Endorsed by “Mickey Mantle” in blue ink on the reverse. The words “Road Account” are printed on the front of the check. While the reason for the check is not specified, it is most likely related to either Mantle’s services as a part-time coach during spring training or a public relations appearance. While there are a small number of Mantle signed checks in the hobby, we have seen fewer than five endorsed New York Yankees payroll checks, making this both a rare and highly desirable item. The check (8.5 x 3.5 inches), which has normal bank cancellation stamps, displays a vertical fold and a few light creases. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
