Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Presented is the extremely scarce preproduction "Large Portrait" variation of #17 Walt Moryn (Chicago Cubs) from the 1960 Leaf series. These distinctive variations were produced prior to the design of the final-issued cards being approved for distribution. The images used on the preproduction variations feature a tightly cropped portrait image of the respective player, while the final-issued cards picture the respective player from the chest up. The reverse of the cards is practically identical. This auction remarkably features six examples from this rare 1960s issue, which represents the first time we have offered even a single example in the last 15 years! The card is bright and crisp, and clean, with four sharp corners, and near-perfect centering. The reverse is perfectly clean with bold black text. This is a superb high-grade example of this extremely scarce 1960 Leaf variation and would be a welcome addition to any high-grade 1960 Leaf master set. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
