Presented is the actual original painting of Hall of Famer Pee Wee Reese of the Brooklyn Dodgers used to produce card #76 in the 1953 Topps series. Originally from the collection of the legendary Sy Berger, this artwork was one of the magnificent gems from the landmark auction of 117 original 1953 Topps paintings personally consigned to REA in 2010 by "The Father of the Bubble Gum Card." Interestingly, since that historic auction, only three other 1953 Topps paintings from the Sy Berger collection has resurfaced in the marketplace (miraculously we have two additional Hall of Famers in this auction). We know they're out there, but apparently collectors are keeping them! This magnificent artwork has been consigned directly from the original purchaser in the 2010 auction. 1953 Topps is one of the most popular sets ever issued, and is the only 1950s set issued by Topps to utilize original paintings. The artwork measures 3.25 x 4.75 inches. Standard production-related glue remnants on the front and blank reverse. Excellent condition. Ex-Sy Berger Personal Collection. Encapsulated "Authentic" by SGC. Reserve $2,000. Estimate (open).
