Presented is a rarely offered complete 12-card (3.5 x 4.25 inches) set of 1949 Sealtest Phillies, one of the scarcest and most distinctive of all postwar regional food issues. Issued in 1949 in the Philadelphia area by Sealtest Dairy, this rare regional issue features only Phillies players, highlighted by Hall of Famers Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts. Both the Sealtest set and the Lummis Peanut Butter set used the same design (although Sealtest cards were produced with peel-off sticker backs), photos, and checklist of Phillies players to advertise their product on the reverse of each card in the 12-card set. This is an extremely rare set! In fact, this is the first complete set that we can recall ever offering in the last fifteen years. Each card in the set is graded and encapsulated by PSA. The cards presented in this set comprise the #1 PSA Set Registry set. It goes without saying that the assembly of this set is a tremendous collecting achievement. This set was put together card by card over a period of several years by an extremely dedicated collector. PSA Grading Composite: Ashburn (HOF, VG-EX 4), Borowy (VG 3), Ennis (VG-EX+ 4.5), Hamner (VG 3), Jones (GOOD 2), Meyer (GOOD 2), Nicholson (EX-MT 6), Roberts (HOF, Authentic), Rowe (VG 3), Seminick (VG-EX+ 4.5), Simmons (VG 3), and Waitkus (VG-EX+ 4.5). This offering represents a unique opportunity to acquire a complete set of this exceptionally rare postwar food issue, which advanced collectors recognize as among the rarest of all regional card issues. Total: 12 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
