Presented is an outstanding high-grade collection of the 1940 W711-2 Cincinnati Reds Team Issue. Consisting of sixty-five cards representing a complete set (32), a complete set minus one (missing only the ancillary “1940 World Series Results” card not featuring players but technically needed to call a set complete), and two duplicates (Bucky Walters and "Tell the World About Our Cincinnati Reds"). Condition: 49% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 37% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 14% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple lesser). These black-and-white cards were sold in 32-card sets at Crosley Field, the Reds' stadium, and feature biographical and statistical information about the depicted players, coaches, and even broadcaster Harry Hartman, who came up with the idea to honor the back-to-back National League Pennant winners and 1940 World Series champions. Includes an example of the specially designed box in which sets were housed. The box exhibits creasing and minor soiling, but still presents in Very Good condition. Total: 65 cards and one box.
