Hard-bound 1930 Reach Official American League Baseball Guide signed on the interior front cover by Football Hall of Fame executive and former National Football League (NFL) president Joe Carr. Carr's black fountain-pen signature, "Joe F. Carr," has been boldly scripted and grades "10." Below his signature, in Carr's hand, is the address for the NFL office at the time and the date: "16 East Broad. St. Columbus Ohio 4/29-30." Carr's signature is exceedingly rare and this is the first example we have ever offered. This particular book is distinguished by the the fact that it originates directly from the Carr family and is accompanied by a one-page letter of provenance signed by Carr's grandson, James Carr. Joe Carr was one of the most important early figures in professional football, serving as president of the NFL from 1921 through 1939, the year of his death. He also served as president of the American Basketball League (ABL) from 1925-1928 and as president of the Columbus Redbirds, a minor league baseball team. Carr was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963 as part of its first induction class. The green cloth boards (4.5 x 6.75 inches) display heavy water staining and there is oxidation to the binding staples. The guide itself is complete with its original cover and is in Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre-certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication.
