Extremely rare 1947 advertising poster featuring Jackie Robinson and his family endorsing Homogenized Bond Bread. Bond also issued a set of baseball cards (catalogued D302), each featuring a different pose of Robinson, in 1947. The poster was designed to be displayed in store windows, hopefully to encourage youngsters, and their parents, to buy the very same bread as the Jackie Robinson family. While we were not present to see the posters on display in the 1940s, it is our understanding that Bond provided these posters exclusively to stores in black neighborhoods. The posters were designed with adhesive in the four corners to allow them to be affixed to store windows. This is a magnificent example of one of the rarest and most historically significant of all baseball card-related advertising posters. Also of special note, this is the Copeland example, which appeared as Lot #514 in the landmark 1991 Sotheby's auction and sold for $3,300. In that catalog, it is described as "restored at overall Excellent to Mint." The restoration, which is extremely minor, is to a small tear and chip in the upper left corner. Some light staining on the reverse to two corners is mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy. The poster is bright, crisp, and clean, and in otherwise Excellent condition.
