Issued as a promotional vehicle for a clothing manufacturer in Grover, Colorado, this baseball scorecard features portrait images of sixteen members of both the 1914 World Champion Boston "Miracle" Braves and 1914 American League Champion Philadelphia Athletics. The images appear along the top border of each side, and all of the players are identified in print in the upper right corner. Among the notables pictured here are Connie Mack, Frank Baker, Eddie Plank, Chief Bender, Eddie Collins, Rabbit Maranville, Johnny Evers, Hank Gowdy, and George Stallings. The front of the scorecard features a full-length image of Ty Cobb in a batting pose, as well the name of the local company representative: "E. B. Franklin - Grover, Colo." On the reverse are listed all the past American and National League champions, World Series winners, and the top ten batters in each league for 1914. Since Boston is listed as the 1914 World Champions, this piece was obviously issued after the World Series, maybe as late as the spring of 1915. This is one of several variations of this scorecard we have seen over the years, but the first we have seen from 1914 (all the others we have seen date from 1915). The scorecard (14 x 5.25 inches; visible dimensions), which has not been scored or folded over, remains in apparent Near Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 19 x 10 inches. This is a very scarce piece commemorating the legendary 1914 "Miracle" Braves. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
