1939 Baseball Hall of Fame first-day cover signed on the front by Johnny Evers. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the envelope and certified the signature as "Authentic." Evers has signed the envelope in black fountain pen, with the signature grading "8/9." The envelope bears a "Jun 12, 1939, Cooperstown N.Y." postmark and a three-cent Baseball Centennial stamp. Evers is best known today as the second baseman in baseball's most famous double-play combo "Tinker to Evers to Chance." Fittingly, all three players were elected to the Hall of Fame in 1946. Evers died less than one year later, resulting in the scarcity of his signature today. This is an ideal signature example on an outstanding item. The envelope (6.5 x 3.5 inches) displays light toning and a tiny ink notation on the reverse. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. As a point of reference, a nearly identical 1939 first-day cover signed by Evers appeared as Lot 706 in our Fall 2014 auction, where it realized $3,900. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
