Scrapbook page signed by both Babe Ruth and Rabbit Maranville in 1935. This piece is unique in that the original owner provided handwritten notes detailing the circumstances of how he obtained each signature. The significance of that is that the Ruth signature was obtained the night before he hit the final three home runs of his career. One side of the page is devoted to Babe Ruth and features an affixed newspaper photo below the handwritten title "Greatest Home Run Hitter in Baseball History! - Babe Ruth." The base of the page has been boldly signed "Sincerely Babe Ruth" in black fountain pen (grading "9/10"). The handwritten note next to Ruth's signature reads "Babe gave me his autograph in his room at the Hotel Schenley on the night before he hit 3 home runs against the Pirates at Forbes field." The date "5-23-35" appears under Ruth's signature. (It should be noted that the date listed here is probably in error, because Ruth's three home runs against the Pirates took place on May 25. 1935.) The other side of the page is similarly devoted to Maranville and is signed "Best Wishes Rabbit Maranville" in black fountain pen ("9/10") along the base. The notation regarding Maranville's signature reads "Rabbit gave me his autograph in the Boston dressing room at Forbes Field, just after the Pirates had defeated the Braves by a 7-6 score." The date, "5-24-35" appears under Maranville's signature. The scrapbook page (8.5 x 10.75 inches) is slightly toned and in Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
