Rarely offered example of New York Yankees Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle, the key card to the 1959 Topps Venezuelan set. The Topps Venezuelan issues are among the most fascinating sets of the late 1950s and 1960s. The first 196 cards of Topps’ 1959 baseball set were reprinted on a non-glossy cardboard stock for sale exclusively in the Venezuelan market. The fronts are identical in design to the regular-issue Topps’ cards, but the backs are darker than normal and the credit line “Impreso En Venezuela Por Benco C.A." is printed along the bottom edge. Graded PR 1 (MK) by PSA, the obvious condition flaws include multiple creases, severely rounded corners, and the letter “E” written in blue ink at the top. The reverse of the card is heavily worn. Though they receive little attention because they are virtually never found in high grade, Topps Venezuelan cards are among the most unusual and rare baseball-card sets of the decade. This is a very presentable Venezuelan example of one of the key cards of the decade, and a rarity that would be a significant addition to any Topps Venezuelan, type-card, or Mickey Mantle collection.
