Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Extremely crisp, high-grade example of this classic card featuring Ted Williams in his rookie season. The card displays four razor-sharp corners, near-perfect centering, and a crystal-clear image of the "Splendid Splinter" in his familiar swing-thru pose. The reverse of the card is also perfectly crisp, clean, and boldly printed. It is fascinating to note that the text on the back of this rookie card reports that Ted "has a great future according to experts." Ted Williams' Play Ball rookie is part of PSA's Top 250 Sportscards in the Hobby set, based on the book Collecting Sports Legends: The Ultimate Hobby Guide, by Joe Orlando, which selects the most significant cards from all the different sports. Examples of premier rookie cards, such as this, in extreme high grades have realized exceptionally strong prices recently. This is a tremendous example of one of the key cards from the 1939 Play Ball set and one of the most popular cards of the era in extraordinary overall condition. Reserve $10,000. Estimate (open).
