Graded NM 7 by PSA. This is the only example graded at this level by PSA with none higher! Extremely rare and outstanding high-grade example of Heinie Groh from the 1927 Honey Boy Ice Cream set. This card, and the other Honey Boy cards in this auction, originate from a fresh collection of cards unearthed in Canada and submitted directly to PSA for grading. This is an extremely rare set! Honey Boys are almost never seen or offered, but are well known by advanced collectors both for their rarity and memorable product name, as well as for being one of the very few card sets issued during the late 1920s. This 21-card set was issued by The Purity Ice Cream Co. of Winnipeg, Canada, in 1927, to promote the company's Honey Boy Ice Cream product. The set features mostly Major Leaguers but also includes a few Canadian League players. Honey Boys measure 1-5/8 x 2-3/8 inches. They are considerably rarer than almost all of the few card issues dating from the 1920s. The front pictures a square black-and-white portrait with just the player's name printed below. The reverse of each card features advertising for the Purity Ice Cream Co., with an offer of a brick of "Delicious Honey Boy Ice Cream" for each full set of twenty-one cards returned to the company. This example is crisp and clean, both front and back, with strong corners (a bit more wear to the lower left) and outstanding centering. Entirely clean reverse, with a boldly printed promotional offer and advertisement. This is a superb high-grade example and would be a worthy addition to any world-class vintage card collection.
