Bank check, dated January 4, 1930, signed by Orville Wright (1871-1948), in black fountain pen. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the signature graded GEM MINT 10. The check, drawn on the City National Bank and Trust Company of Dayton, Ohio, is made out to "William Lewis" in the amount of $12.00 and has been endorsed by Lewis on the reverse. Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright built and flew the first manned, motor-powered heavier-than-air craft. The first flight, with Orville at the controls, took place at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on December 17, 1903. The success of that flight paved the way for the development of larger and heavier planes shortly after. The check (8.75 x 3 inches) displays normal bank cancelation stamps and perforations (not affecting the signature), as well as numerous vertical folds and minor creases. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
