Military appointment, dated July 22, 1869, signed by Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885), eighteenth President of the United States. The document appoints Charles T. Torse an "Ensign in the Navy." Signed by "U. S. Grant" as President of the United States and George M. Robeson as Secretary of the Navy. Grant's signature has been scripted in black ink, grading "6." The Navy Department's blue paper seal remains firmly affixed along the base. The document 13.75 x 17.5 inches) is in apparent Near-Mint condition. Matted and framed together with an illustration of Grant and a descriptive plaque. Total dimensions: 24 x 36 inches.
