Pittsburgh Penguins jersey worn by Hall of Fame center Mario Lemieux during the 1988-1989 season. Accompanied by a LOA from MeiGray Group, which has photo matched the jersey from a Pittsburgh Gazette photo of Lemieux during the 1989 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs (photo accompanies the jersey). According to MeiGray, Lemieux wore this particular jersey during the second half of the regular season as well. The white jersey, with gold-and-black sleeves, features the Penguins logo patch on the front and the number "66" on the reverse and each sleeve. The name "Lemieux" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All reverse numerals are appliqued in black on gold tackle twill, while the sleeve numerals are appliqued in black on white tackle twill. All reverse letters are appliqued in solid black. A black on gold tackle twill "C" appears on the left breast (denotes "Captain"). Both "CCM" and "Century Sports" are embroidered along the exterior rear tail. A Maska Ultrafil label, which features the number "66" written in faded black marker, appears in the collar. The jersey, which is original as issued, with no alterations, displays heavy wear. According to MeiGray, "The right sleeve exhibits black marks, board burns, and 4 team repairs. The left sleeve exhibits black marks, board burns, and 2 team repairs. The front of the jersey exhibits black marks, and 1 team repair. The back of the jersey exhibits black marks. Salt deposits show in the fight strap. 1988 was the first full season in which the Penguins wore jerseys with all names, numbers, and crest sewn onto the jersey, making this a rare style. The season also marked Lemieux's finest season on ice, which culminated in the first postseason appearance of his career. Lemieux won the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer, with career-high totals in goals (85), assists (114), and points (199). During his 11-game playoff run, Lemieux finished with 19 points (12 goals and 7 assists) in leading the Penguins to the Division Finals. One of the greatest players in history, Lemieux finished his 17-year career with top-ten rankings in goals (690) and points (1,723). Additional honors include 3 Hart Memorial Trophies (MVP Award), 6 Art Ross Trophies (scoring leader), and 2 Conn Smythe Trophies (playoff MVP). He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1997. LOA from MeiGray Group. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
