Bank check, dated July 26, 1984, signed in blue ink along the base by Hall of Fame basketball player “Pistol Pete” Maravich. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the signature graded NM-MT 8. The check, drawn on the “Bankers Trust of Lousiana,” is made out to “Jim Thompson” in the amount of $600 and has been endorsed by both Thompson and “Doloris J. Thompson” on the reverse. The word “Painting” is written in the memo field on the front. Maravich died of a heart attack in 1989 at the age of 40, which has resulted in the scarcity of his signature today. This particular check originates directly from the Maravich family and is accompanied by a one-page typed-signed letter from Jackie Maravich (Pete’s widow) attesting to its provenance. The check (6 x 2.75 inches) displays normal bank cancellation stamps (not affecting the signature) and a vertical fold (touching on the “P” in “Pete”). In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
