Offered in this collection is exactly half of the 1986 Michael Jordan ten-card set issued by The Star Co. as one of its limited offerings. The set was devoted exclusively to Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls and highlighted his collegiate, Olympian, and pro career up to that point in time. Each card is graded MINT 9 by BGS. The collection consists of the following five cards: #1 Michael Jordan - Checklist, 4 Michael Jordan - Pro Stats, 6 1985 Michael Jordan - Rookie-of-the-Year, 9 Michael Jordan - Personal Data, and 10 Michael Jordan - The Future. The five missing cards to complete the set are #2, 3, 5, 7, and 8. During the mid-1980's, Star Co. was the sole producer of NBA-licensed basketball trading cards in the United States. Topps had last produced a set during the 1981-1982 season, and Fleer did not produce a followup to their landmark 1961-1962 set until the 1986-1987 season. Distributed directly through the hobby as limited print run, small poly-bagged team (or theme) sets (rather than in wax packs), the cards featured many future Hall of Famers' only cardboard appearances until their more mainstream Fleer issues, including Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Stockton, and Dominique Wilkins. These five cards would be an excellent foundation for a complete MINT 9 ten-card set, or as additions to a Michael Jordan collection. Total: 5 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
