Addendum (10/16/17 - 4:25 pm): Please Note: While we cannot be certain, it is more than likely that this scarf was produced during the 1930s rather than in 1925. We believe the scarf was issued as a commemorative piece, possibly in 1935 to celebrate the Giants' 10th season, with the 1925 denoting the team's inaugural season and not the actual date of manufacture.
Red-felt scarf, bearing a red-and-blue Giants logo, dating from the club's 1925 inaugural NFL season. Any and all memorabilia dating from the New York Giants' first season in the NFL are exceedingly rare, and this scarf is no exception. This is the first example we have ever seen and it may be the lone survivor. It comes with the provenance of having originated from the collection of Leo Curley, who was a sportswriter with The Times Record of Troy, New York. (A large collection of World Series press pins and press pins originating from Curley's collection appear elsewhere in this auction; this was the only football item found in the collection.) The scarf (57 x 9 inches; not including the tassels) features a red-and-blue shield design bearing the team name, "Giants," and the year, "1925." It should be noted that red was the primary color for the New York Giants' football jerseys from 1925 through the 1950s, with the helmet featuring a blue and red design. For that reason, and the fact that a scarf is a winter garment, we strongly believe this was issued by the New York football Giants, and not the New York baseball Giants. However, the New York baseball Giants used a similar red-and-blue design for their uniforms in 1925, so there is a remote possibility that this scarf may have been issued by the baseball club. The scarf displays slight fraying along the edges and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition, with the painted logo looking much as it did when first issued. Reserve $200. Estimate (open)
