Derek Jeter Louisville Slugger signature model "P72" bat dating from the 2002 season. Graded GU 9 by PSA/DNA. The exact dating of this bat can be determined by a review of the Louisville Slugger factory records. The bat has a standard Black finish, as opposed to Jeter's more usual Black/Smith finish, and a check of the records indicate that Jeter placed an order for standard Black finish bats on April 2, 2002, which was the date following the Yankees' opening game. The bat, which is not cracked, displays evidence of heavy use along its entire length, including numerous ball marks and stitch impressions on all sides of the barrel (ball marks include blue-ink transfers), cleat marks, and a heavy application of Mota stick on the handle. Jeter batted .297 with 18 home runs and 75 RBI in 2002, which helped lead the Yankees to a first-place finish in the American League East Division. Derek Jeter is the greatest shortstop in New York Yankees history and one of the few players to be honored with the title of "Captain." During Jeter's celebrated twenty seasons in New York, the Yankees won eight pennants and six World Championships. Like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle before him, Jeter personifies the most recent Yankees dynasty, and it seems assured that one day his plaque will hang in Cooperstown. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 33.8 ounces. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+.
