Original news photo capturing Babe Ruth during his final appearance at Yankee Stadium on June 13, 1948. Encapsulated and certified as an Original Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA. The poignant image pictures a frail Babe Ruth tipping his cap to the fans for the last time. Ruth, who was gravely ill at the time (he died 2 months later), was one of the honored guests of the day, as the club retired his famed number "3" during a ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium. This was also the game at which Nat Fein took his famous photo of Ruth, titled "The Babe Bows Out." A "Keystone View Co." credit stamp appears on the reverse, as do a number of handwritten editorial notations, including the date "6/13/48." The photo (6 x 9.25 inches), which has been neatly trimmed to its current dimensions, displays numerous light surface wrinkles throughout (most are only visible when viewed at certain angles) which do not detract in the least from its overall Excellent appearance. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
