Exceedingly rare full ticket from the 8th and deciding game of the 1912 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants held at Fenway Park on October 16th. Graded POOR 1 by PSA. This is one of only three full 1912 Game 8 tickets authenticated by PSA/DNA; two are graded at this level, and NONE are graded higher. Many historians consider the 1912 World Series, which is the only World Series in history to feature a deciding Game 8, one of the most exciting Series ever played. (A few other World Series went 8 games, but they were all best of 9; the 1912 was best of 7, but included one tie.) Four of the games were decided by 1 run, and 2 games went into extra innings. Game 8 was a particularly thrilling affair that matched Giants ace Christy Mathewson against Hugh Bedient. Bedient had defeated Mathewson 2-1 in Game 5, and their rematch was an equally taut affair that remained deadlocked 1-1 after 9 innings. Red Sox ace Joe Wood relieved Bedient in the 8th inning, but he faltered in the 10th, allowing the go-head run on a single by Fred Merkle. With a one-run lead and Mathewson still on the mound for the Giants in the bottom of the 10th, all signs pointed to a Giants victory. Unfortunately, fate had other plans in store for the New York faithful. Aided by a dropped fly ball by Giants centerfielder Fred Snodgrass to start the inning, and another misplayed foul pop up off the bat of Tris Speaker a few batters later, the Red Sox rallied for two runs to capture their first of 4 World Championships during the decade. The ticket (4.75 x 1.5 inches) displays a number of moderate creases, but remains complete as issued. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+.
