Trio of original circa 1913 news photo capturing, respectively, each member of the Chicago Cubs fabled double-play combo: “Tinker to Evers to Chance.” Each photograph is accompanied by an individual LOA from PSA/DNA, certifying it as a Type I photo. All of the photos feature the player’s name on the reverse, either handwritten or stamped, as well as additional editorial notations. 1) Joe Tinker. Pictured posing in the field, hands on knees, as a member of the Cubs. No news-service credit appears on the reverse, but it does bear a date stamp of “Jun 16 1913” date stamp. 7 x 9 inches. Gd-Vg, with a large chip in the upper-left corner, creases, pinholes, and light editorial shading. 2) Johnny Evers. Pictured in a batting pose as a member of the Braves. The New York Herald credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does a later The Cleveland News stamp that bears a date of “Oct 9.” 6.5 x 8.5 inches. Ex, with a few minor creases. 3) Frank Chance. Pictured catching a ball at first base as a member of the Yankees. An International Film Service stamp appears on the reverse, as does a later The Cleveland News stamp. The date “5/12/13” is written in pencil on the reverse. 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Vg-Ex, with neatly trimmed borders, pinholes, and editorial shading. Total: 3 photos. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
