Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue ink by the following 27 members of the 1954 New York Yankees: Mantle, Berra (sweet spot), Ford, Slaughter, Rizzuto, Bauer, Schallock, Skowron, Branca, Gorman, Reynolds (sweet spot), Carey, Noren, Morgan, Sain, Cerv, Miranda, Woodling, Konstanty, Coleman, Silvera, McDonald, Collins, Byrd, Byrne, McDougald, and Grim. The signatures are all fairly uniform in grade, averaging “6.” The year, “1954,” is written on the ball label and the number “53,” is written on a side panel, each in blue ink. The number “53” is especially important because it directly relates to the ball’s unique provenance. This ball originates from Moose Skowron’s personal collection and is accompanied by a one-page typed-signed letter from his daughter attesting to its provenance. Unbeknownst to most fans and collectors, Skowron wore No. 53 in 1954. The following season he changed to No. “14,” which was the number he wore for the remainder of his 9-year career with the Yankees. 1954 also marked Skowron’s rookie season with the Yankees, so it’s probably safe to say that this ball had great sentimental value for him. The ball is lightly toned and remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Full LOAs from PSA/DNA and Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Pre-certified by SGC Authentic. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
