Extraordinary and almost certainly unique Cy Young double-signed ball. Young has signed the Official "Park League" ball in blue fountain pen on two adjacent side panels, with each signature extending into the sweet spot. Although they were obviously scripted at the same, one of the signatures is slightly stronger, grading "7," while the other grades "5/6." It's hard to imagine the circumstances under which Young signed this ball twice. Perhaps it was requested of him, or maybe he was signing a number of balls at the time and just mistakenly picked up one he had already signed. Obviously, we will never know, but the result is the most unique Cy Young signed item we have ever offered. It is also, to the best of our recollection, the only double-signed ball we have seen from a pre-war Hall of Fame player. A Cy Young single-signed ball has always been highly prized by collectors and this double-signed example would the highlight of any advanced Hall of Fame autograph collection. The ball is lightly toned and displays a few small areas of age toning, as well as a moderate abrasion/indentation that transverses two panels (not affecting either signature). In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
